History told by one of the original members of the Young Stylers

It was about 7 of us at a playground across from Senn High School. And we were just messing around about giving us a name when Lil Kong or Player came up with the name. The funny thing is that we were just party people (that means that we would go to parties and just have a great time). But then word got around and from 7 guys it started getting bigger. Mind you we were still party people but since we had a big crew we looked like a gang. Sure we had picked our colors as Red & Gray, we were still party people. Which means that we would go to school or house parties, Imagine 20 or more guys walking into a party. There would be other gangs at the parties and would feel intimated when we walked in, but hell we came to have a good time, mind you, we were not a gang but damn when you see 20 guys walk into a party. Back then it must have look cool.  I guess our song would have been Ladies Nights, but in stead of Ladies it would be Stylers Nights. When we would walk into a party and by chance Ladies Night was playing all of a sudden from Ladies it changed to Stylers and we would start dancing from the door and have a great time and everyone would start singing, and instead of Ladies they would sing Stylers Nights. Some of the original 7 are dead ( and may they have found peace) and some are in the cage (Jail). To my bros that are looking down at us, Yo bros from an ideal of being just party people and hanging and having a good time and having our names in a web site, I'm Pround to have been one one of the 7 (POPS). Y/S to the heart.

Young Stylers and the Stylerlets started around the summer of 1979 our hood was Ashland and foster on the Northside in the up town area we had to fight to take control of Senn H.S at that time was ran mostly by Latin Kings and Harrison Gents , Vice Lords and Brazers the following year the only gangs that came back to Senn were the BGD and the Brazers at this time the Brazers were also folks but we still would fight every time we had a chance but back in our hood we also had to fight with Gaylords , Insane Popes, Thorndale Jag Offs-KKK we also hungout at Jenels that started In an apartment on Irving PK and Kedzie around 1979 and Rainbow roller skating ring at clark and Lawrence the weekends and also when things got hot with the Cops in our hood we would meet up at the lake, Montrose known to most as the turn at the lake it was a dead end street But around 1983 we changed our name to Latin Stylers as we are known to all the Latin Stylers around this time were having an all out war with the Spanish lords .  The Young Stylers also founded the hand sign that Latin Stylers use presently, which is forming an “S” with two hands.  One Young Stylers merged with Latin Stylers in 1983 the hand sign was used for all Sylers.
