The Unknown Assassins formed in the year 1983 on the corner of 15th street and North Ave in Melrose Park, IL.  There are some rumors that the Unknown Assassins formed sometime in the 1970s in Cicero, IL, but what is known for sure is that the first true organized set came about in 1983 in Melrose Park.  The UAs had two founders one was “Sir Assassin” and the other one I do not know his name.  Sir Assassin was also the gangs’ first President.  The reason for the formation of the Unknown assassins was to combat a very rapidly growing Latin King population in the Melrose Park area.  The Latin Kings were aggressively recruiting young white and Latino youths in the area, and the Unknown Assassins were an outlet for those that did not want to turn LK.  From 1983-1984 the Unknown Assassins did not claim People or Folk allegiance, but simply ran independent and heavily opposed Latin Kings.  In the year 1984 the Unknown Assassins opened up shop in Stone Park in the areas of 37th and Lemoyne to 33rd and Lemoyne to North Ave then all the way back down to Lake St.  Because the UA moved in to stone Park they began to clash with Stone Park Latin Kings and drew a heavy allegiance with the Simon City Royals of Stone Park.  As a result of the UA’s friendship with the Simon City Royals, the UAs began to represent Folks.  The UAs adopted the colors blue and black, blue-“is for the sky in which we fly our flag high”, black-“is for the unknown shadow.”  The symbols the UAs adopted were the reaper which stood for secrecy, darkness, and death.  They also adopted the pitchfork which stood for mind body and soul-death before dishonor.  Then they adopted all the Folk nation identifiers such as the six point star etc…  The way UAs dressed was to wear any articles of clothing such as hats, earrings, pant cuffs etc… to the right side of the body (Folk identifiers) and to wear “hoodies.” When the UAs opened shop in Stone Park in 1984, they left their original hood in Melrose Park to fight a larger battle in Stone Park.

By 1989 the Stone Park UAs were fading fast because of the growing Latin King populations, they were reduced to the corners of 33rd and 34th and Lemoyne.  By 1990 the Stone Park UAs came to a fold for the most part; however, they lingered around the Bellwood/Stone Park border right over the Manheim Bridge for a while.  In 1991 the UAs came roaring back opening up shop in Bellwood, IL and Berkeley, IL.  They opened shop in Bellwood, IL on the corner of Jerele and St. Charles south to Washington Blvd.  They also opened shop in Berkeley, IL on the corner of St. Charles and Taft south to Ridge Ave.  By 1985 the UAs had a strong influence at Proviso West High School in Hillside, IL.  Eventually the UAs created more allies such as Spanish Cobras and Orchestra Albanies from 63rd and Summit in Summit, IL.  Spanish Cobras from Taylor and western in Chicago.  Gangsters Disciples from 24th and St.Charles in Bellwood, IL, and also 47th and St. Charles.  The Imperial Gangsters from Franklin Park, IL (the Jungle).  In summary UA main allies were Spanish Cobras, Imperial Gangsters, Gangsters Disciples, and especially Simon City Royals.  The main enemy of the UAs was Latin Kings.  They also clashed very heavily with Vice Lords, especially the VLs of Bellwood, IL.  The UAs also developed a rivalry with the Twelfth Street Players from Cicero, IL.  These friendships and rivalries stayed throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

In 1988 the UAs’ first President Sir Assassin got sent to prison and afterward never returned to the hood and left UA when he was released.  UA second President was Jose Salinas who had a short term of only one year until he stepped down in 1989 to join the Air Force.  The UA third President was “Lil Assassin” who was in power from 1989 till 1991.  In 1991 he stepped down as President but remained in the gang as an advisor for the next President which was “Sir Fox.”  Sir Fox was President from 1991 till 1992.  In 1992 Sir Fox stepped down and retired from gang life to raise a family.  In 1992 “Sir Tarzan” took over as the nation’s new President.

Around the time when Sir Tarzan first took control of the organization, he attempted to bring the UAs under the umbrella of the Insane familia with the Spanish Cobras and the OA.  Because the UAs were not officially completely made officially Folks, the Cobras and OA would only allow such a move if UA became either an OA or Spanish Cobra branch, Sir Tarzan rejected to offer and kept the UA legacy going.

One major accomplishment that Sir Tarzan completed was successfully preventing Latin Kings from opening a Bellwood branch of Latin Kings.  Hardcore, relentless gangbanging on the part of the UAs was how they prevented Latin Kings from entering Bellwood at that point in time.  In 1993 the Bellwood UAs abandoned their sets and consolidated with the Berkeley UAs, thus, making the Berkeley UAs even stronger.  By 1994 the Unknown Assassins were strong in number and heavily active; members were hard core and dedicated.  A few years later the Unknown Assassins began to experience some major problems by 1996 that would lead to the organizations’ demise.  Drug addiction became a major problem with UA members, especially Heroine addiction.  An interalliance war erupted between the Berkley Imperial Gangsters and the UAs because UAs wanted to side with Insane families during the Insane/IG wars.  Continued major drug addiction destroyed the UAs in Berkeley.  Sir Tarzan made an attempt to open a set in Chicago in 1998 on the corner of Filmore and Mason “the island,” but disorganization caused the set to disintegrate.  In 1998 Sir Tarzan officially closed the UAs down for good.  All UA operations were completely shut down and there has not been UA activity anywhere since 1998.  Sir Tarzan returned to the Gangsters Disciples which was the first gang he originally joined before becoming UA.  Other members of the UAs flipped to other organizations such as Simon City Royals, Imperial Gangsters, Satan Disciples, Maniac Latin Disciples, Gangsters Disciples etc…

Reports and claims have surfaced in recent years that some individuals have been claiming to be Unknown Assassin gang members; however, they can not possibly be because the real Unknown Assassins street gang is now extinct, and any UA activity going on anywhere is unauthorized.  The true Unknown Assassins were a hard core organization that has now become of piece of Chicago land street gang history.
