Dozen gang suspects arrested in crack raid

Chicago police busted a dozen suspected Gangster Disciples gang members Wednesday after a nearly three-month drug conspiracy investigation, officials said.

Operation Corner Pocket targeted crack-cocaine dealing in a courtyard building at 64th and Artesian on the Southwest Side, said Lt. Bob Cervenka of the police narcotics and gang section.

The probe began in late May after the commander of the Chicago Lawn police district passed on complaints about drug dealing and violence near the street corner.

Cervenka said arrest warrants were issued to 13 suspects on drug conspiracy charges and to two suspects on drug delivery charges. Twelve of the suspects were nabbed Wednesday, he said.

Police have conducted 18 street-corner drug conspiracy probes this year, with 257 arrests, said Deputy Chief John Risley, who runs the narcotics and gang section.
