A 24-year-old Cicero woman was killed early Sunday and a pregnant woman was injured in a shooting that authorities said may have been directed at a gang member.
Christine Galvez, of the 1500 block of South 51st Court, was killed when someone sprayed bullets at the porch where she was sitting with a 28-year-old pregnant woman, as well as Frankie Rogers, a reputed member of the Noble Knights street gang, according to authorities.
Rogers, 26, has served a sentence at the Joliet Correctional Center, said Dan Proft, a spokesman for the Town of Cicero. Rogers has previously been convicted of two felony weapons charges and two misdemeanor charges of damage to property, Proft said.
Detectives suspect Sunday's shooting was linked to "rival gang activity" and that Rogers was the target, Proft said.
2 PREVIOUS MURDERS
The injured woman, who is three months pregnant, was shot in the back, Proft said. She was in stable condition at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, he said.
The three were sitting on the porch at about 12:15 a.m. Sunday when a shooter or shooters opened fire, Proft said. Rogers, who was struck twice in the abdomen, was in stable condition at Mount Sinai Hospital, Proft said.
Cicero has had two previous murders this year, in January and February, Proft said. The January case was linked to drugs, and the February slaying was also gang-related
