The C-Notes started around the corner of Ohio and Leavitt in the early  1950s. At the time they were an Italian white gang; therefore, their colors were the colors of the Italian flag which is red, white, and green. Throughout  the 1960s the C-Notes began to grow in numbers and became one of the larger greaser gangs. The C-Notes were strictly a white gang and they had racist views; therefore, they joined the WPO (White Power Organization) in the early 1970s, also around this time the C-Notes adopted alternative colors of black and green. At this time the C-Notes did not recruit any non-white members and usually no non-Italian members either. In the mid-1970s the C-Notes joined the UFO (United Fighting Organization) which made allies with such gangs as the Gaylords. Disputes began within the Gaylords which lead to the C-Notes disbanding from the FO. Right afterward the C-Notes opened up new territory in Jefferson Park. This helped the C-Notes grow and become further recognized, respected, and even feared on the streets.

By the early 1980s the C-Notes had a presence on Chicago and Western, Harlem and Grand, Smith Park, Ohio and Leavitt, along Erie street, Jefferson Park and the around the Axel Roller Rink. At the time they attended such schools as Mitchell Grade School, Otis Grade School, Prosser H.S., and Lane H.S. During the 1980s many gangs in Chicago began to align with Folk or People including white gangs like the Gaylords and the Taylor Jousters (People gangs). The C-Notes chose not to join either side. The C-Notes rode under the moniker "Family", which was also established and created by the Insane C-Notes. By the late 1980s East Village was transforming more and more Latino. In order the avoid extinction and carry on the C-Note legacy, the Notes found it necessary to recruit Latino members. By the early 90s the C-Notes had many Latino members that comprised of nearly half the gang. Other changes began to surface in the early 90s which made the C-Notes gain new allies.

In 1995 the C-Notes befriended gangs within the Folks alliance that were in the Insane Familia which was an organization headed by the Spanish Cobras. They also became and active group on the board of the Insane Family. Even though the C-Notes joined Folks they still had old beefs with Folk Nation gangs like the Satan Disciples East Village. This war led the C-Notes to befriend a fellow Folk Nation gang called the Harrison Gents who also are at war with the SDs even though the Harrison Gents are an Almighty Gang. The C-Notes can still be found in Smith Park(Dead Prez City), and Jefferson Park (J/P Notes). (Ohio and Leavitt is within East Village). To this day the C-Notes continue to keep their 50 year presence alive at any cost.
